Madinah (or Medina) is the second holiest city of Islam, and forms part of the Hajj pilgrimage. It’s actually a surprisingly modern city, but it’s the towering turrets of its older architecture that really catch the eye.
Medina is the scene of the grand mosque, Masjid Al-Nabawi, which houses The Prophet Muhammad’s burial site and promises a frankly astonishing experience for any visitor – the scale of it is almost unimaginable. It’s worth bearing in mind though, that only Muslims are allowed into the sacred core.
