The northern-most emirate lies at the mountainous tip of the country and shares a border with the Musandam region of Oman.
In complete contrast to some of the more glittering emirates such as Dubai or Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, known as RAK, is very low-key and traditional. Adjacent to the rugged Hajjar Mountains, the emirate is loved by hikers and mountain climbers who welcome the challenges set by nature. Recently some luxurious beach resorts have been built along the stunning coast offering, together with the inland hot springs, a respite from the more modern emirates.
