Sharm el-Sheikh is a popular sea and sand holiday resort that lies spectacularly set between the Red Sea and the Sinai mountains.
Until recently ‘Sharm’ – as it is known to locals and visitors alike – was a quiet fishing village. There were only a handful of resorts in the early 1980s, but by the dawning of the new millennium there were almost 100. This Egyptian oasis is popular because of its year round subtropical balmy temperatures, but also its clean seas, which offer world-class snorkelling and scuba diving. A swathe of breathtaking scenery also unfolds just outside the city.
